Hannah M. Hunter, B.A.(Hons), J.D., is an associate with Beresh Law. Her practice is solely focused on defending individuals facing criminal charges or quasi-criminal matters.

Hannah was born and raised in Alberta, having lived in several small communities throughout her childhood. She attended the University of Alberta for her undergraduate studies, where she developed her skills for persuasive and argumentative writing.  In 2020 she received her Bachelor of Arts (with Honours in English and a minor in Biological Sciences).

Hannah then embarked on her legal studies at the University of Alberta, where she became involved with Student Legal Services (SLS) as a volunteer. She was hired on as a full-time case worker with the SLS Criminal Project in both her second and third years of law school, which provided invaluable experience and solidified Hannah’s passion for criminal law.

During her time with SLS, Hannah represented dozens of individuals charged with a wide range of criminal and regulatory offences, including charges for assault, theft, and impaired driving. In addition to winning at trial, Hannah has had great success in using written advocacy to have charges withdrawn in advance of trial.

In addition to her work with the SLS Criminal Project, Hannah volunteered with the SLS Family and Civil Project, and Pro Bono Students Canada. Throughout law school, Hannah also concentrated her legal studies on the area of criminal law, completing courses including Advanced Criminal Law, Sentencing, Wrongful Convictions, and Advanced Evidence.

Hannah joined Beresh Law in May 2023, and was fortunate to complete her articles under the esteemed Brian A. Beresh, K.C., the founder of Beresh Law and one of Canada’s most experienced and highly-sought criminal defence lawyers.  During her articles, Hannah gained experience assisting with extremely serious cases, including allegations of drug trafficking, sexual assault, and murder.

Being charged with a criminal or regulatory offence can be an incredibly stressful, isolating, and uncertain time, and the criminal justice system can be confusing and overwhelming to navigate on your own. Hannah is here to help, no matter what stage of proceedings you find yourself in. If you need assistance or advice, contact Hannah at 780-421-4766 or at hannah@bereshlaw.ca to set up a free in-person or over-the-phone consultation.
