Salma Kamalipour, B.Sc., B.A.Hons, J.D.
Salma Kamalipour, B.Sc., J.D. Hons, J.D., is a Student-at-Law, articled to Brian Beresh, K.C. at Beresh Law.
Salma earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from MacEwan University, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology (with Distinction) from the University of Alberta. She then relocated to Halifax, to complete her law degree at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law.
Throughout law school, Salma pursued courses that deepened her understanding of criminal law, including Criminal Procedure, Law of Evidence, Youth and the Law, International Criminal Law, Restorative Justice Theory and Practice, Written Advocacy, and the Law of Sexual Offences. These studies solidified her commitment to advocacy and the pursuit of a career as a criminal defence lawyer.
In her second year, Salma gained invaluable experience with the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service under senior Crown counsel. She made appearances in provincial court, sat with and assisted counsel at the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, and took on numerous responsibilities, including conducting legal research, drafting detailed legal memoranda, evaluating evidence, and advising her supervisors on prospects of conviction.
In her third year, Salma worked with Nova Scotia Legal Aid under experienced defence counsel, gaining a comprehensive perspective on criminal law from both prosecution and defence viewpoints.
Salma is proud to have the opportunity to learn and work alongside Mr. Beresh and his team of experienced defence counsel. She looks forward to building her career in criminal defence, collaborating with colleagues, and learning from seasoned professionals.
